Moodle Educators – Use PCast plugin to create Podcast in your Moodle course

-

Moodle LMS allows you to extend the features by using the Moodle plugins. There are more than 2k free plugins in the official repository. In this post, we will see how you can use the Moodle PCast plugin which allows you to easily create, upload, and manage podcasts right in your Moodle course.

Podcasts are a wonderful way to deliver content to students, especially those who prefer audio-based learning. The PCast plugin allows Moodle users to upload audio files and create podcast feeds, which can be subscribed to by students through their favorite podcast apps.

One of the excellent features of PCast plugin is its flexibility. Moodle users can create podcasts for individual courses or for the entire Moodle site. This allows for a variety of uses, such as delivering course lectures, sharing interviews with experts, or even creating a school-wide podcast for announcements and news.

You can download the PCast plugin from the official repository here. In case you are new to Moodle, please follow this guide to learn how to install a Moodle plugin.

Another useful feature of PCast plugin is its integration with other Moodle plugins. For example, Moodle users can use it with the Assignment activity to create podcasts as an assignment for students. This is a wonderful way to encourage student engagement and creativity, as students can create and share their own podcasts with their peers.

Pcast also includes features for managing podcast feeds. Moodle users can easily add, edit, and delete podcast episodes and feeds, as well as set the frequency of podcast updates. This makes it easy to keep students up to date with the latest content.

Finally, Pcast includes accessibility features to ensure that all students can access the podcast content. Moodle users can add captions and transcripts to podcast episodes, making them accessible to students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Additionally, it supports the creation of audio descriptions, which can be used to describe visual content to students who are blind or have low vision.

To add a new Podcast activity to your course:

  • Click the “Turn editing on” button.
  • Select Pcast from the “Add an activity” dropdown menu.
  • On the Adding a new pcast page give your new pcast a descriptive name.
  • Describe the purpose of the pcast, provide instructions or background information, links etc. in the Description area.
  • Select the general and grade options and the common module settings.
  • Click the “Save changes” button at the bottom of the page.
