Moodle Teachers – How to send personalized email invitations to your Moodle courses?

-

Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open source learning management system in the world. With more than 2150 Moodle plugins it allows the educators to extend the already rich feature set to any extent. In this post we will see how you can send personalized email invitations for your Moodle courses to probable students.

By default, Moodle allows you to first create an account for a user (called as Authentication) and then enroll them in different courses (enrollment). However there may be cases when you as a Moodle teacher would like to give the students a temporary access to your Moodle course via an email invite. It might be when you are still working on the course and would like to have their feedback.

You can use the Invitation Moodle plugin which will simplifies the enrollment process for your Moodle courses. You can simply click on Invite users and send personalized email invitations for your courses.

You can do the same thing by sharing the enrollment key with the students however the invitation plugin offers more benefits like:

  • You can control who can use the invitation.
  • You can include a personalized message in the invitation.
  • You can see a history of past invitations and their status.
  • You can also see who used an invitation or which ones are expired.
  • You can resend expired invitations or send reminder invitations.
  • You can revoke the invitation if has not yet been accepted.
  • You can invite users who do not yet have an account. However, they will need to create an account before they can accept the invitation.
  • You can limit invitations to users with existing accounts.
  • You can limit the lifespan of the invitation (e.g. 2 weeks)

The Invitation plugin offers control over who can use the invitation, tracks past invitations, and allows for resending or revoking invitations. It also supports inviting users even if they are not yet registered on your Moodle LMS site and limiting the lifespan of the invitation.

You can download the Invitation Moodle plugin from the official plugins repository here.
